COMMUNITY ACTION GROUP
WHAT IS THE GROUP FOR?
Kinlochleven Community Action Group is co-ordinating the plan.
The Group was established in February 2023 by the Lochaber Community Partnership to bring together local community groups, the public sector and other agencies to work collaboratively to tackle inequalities and prevent disadvantage in Lochaber.
The aims were to create a space to consider the needs of our local community and work together to produce a community-led ‘plan of action’ - a Local Place Plan.
In summer 2023, the Community Action Group applied to the Highland Council for funding to prepare a Local Place Plan - a community-led plan with legal status. Highland Council announced in October 2023 the good news that it would fund preparation of our Plan.
That funding paid for preparing the Plan. That included community events, publicity, this website and independent community planner/facilitator Nick Wright.
What's in the Plan belongs to the community as a whole, not the Community Action Group. The Group co-ordinated the work, but did not influence the content of the Plan. Now that the Plan is finished, the Group is turning its attention to making sure that the Plan is implemented, on behalf of the community as a whole.
WHO’S IN THE GROUP?
Membership of the Group is open to any community group, organisation, business or individual who represents a ‘community of interest’ in the Kinlochleven area, including organisations like the Highland Council, High Life Highland, Voluntary Action Lochaber and NHS Highland in a supporting role. You can see the Group’s remit in its Terms of Reference.
Current members are shown below.
CAN I JOIN?
Almost anyone can join, as explained in the Terms of Reference. New members are very welcome.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY COME FROM?
Making a plan needs resources. The Community Action Group applied to the Highland Council’s Communities Regeneration Fund for funding in summer 2023. In October the Group was told that the funding bid was successful.
There is a limited time to spend the funding. But we also need to make sure that the Plan belongs to the village as a whole, not just the Community Action Group, and that will take time to get right.
The Council’s funding only covers preparation of the Plan, not implementation.
Once we know what will be in the Plan, we will look for more resources to turn it into reality. Having the Plan will help us get those resources, as other examples on the Local Place Plan page demonstrate.
